I'M ON A MISSION: A MISSION FROM GOD

?What do you think?

Do you believe that you are eventually honored or rewarded for good things you do for others?

Does this reward come from the same people, a spiritual being, or "what goes around comes around."

Do you believe that your God has a specific mission for each person?

If so, can anyone else accomplish the same thing?

If you were to avoid this mission and fill your life with charitable deeds, would it have the same effect?

How often do you ask to find out what your God hopes for your life?

Would you guess it's a cushy destiny, boring, nerdy, sacrificial, or meaningful, or fun?

Feelings that pop up about making this choice:

mission It won't make sense
mission It won't be in line with what I would do
mission I'll do anything, go anywhere
mission I'm looking forward to a new challenge
mission I would be honored
mission I don't like control being taken from me
entrusted I like the feeling that someone cares about me that much
grant I can't imagine having the time or resources to do it
mission OK, as long as I don't have to check it out with others
trust with If this huge Being created me, then it must know what I'm good at
vision I appreciate a direction that gives my life purpose
mission I don't even have time to take care of my own life
empowered I trust that I'll have everything I need
voice of God I don't want to be accused of schizophrenia
mandate I'm no good at what I suspect I should do
consign What I want and what's good for me are two different things
path It seems like I'm being led in a very sensible direction
send out The training will take too long
mission It hasn't happened yet, probably never will

Would your God provide the supplies, the encouragement, the training?

Would this mission be in sync with your natural abilities and desires?

Your Future: The Will Of Your Supreme Being

The Overall Plan for Life

Do you think that your God has specific plans for your life?

If so, what happens if you choose not to follow the road map?

What happens if you never find out what you are slated to do?

Is your acceptance or worth based on whether you listen and follow a plan?

Does following just fall into place, or do you need to seek out guidance?

Can you find out the plan without connection to your God through prayer, praise, penance or relationship?

Does your religious organization have extreme views on decision-making?

Do you accept all viewpoints of your organization without question, since it is a comparably pure way?

Have you challenged any of these beliefs for accuracy and effectiveness?

Are you uneasy about it?

Would you prefer to go outside your organization for advice?

How would individuals in your religious organization react if you sought outside guidance?

What are some of the traits of a good counselor that you'll need to make objective, clear decisions?

mission respect for your beliefs
mission concern for your health and well-being
mission physical protection
mission unconditional caring and support
mission concrete advice
mission abstract suggestions
mission medical help
mission suggestions for other places to get support
mission less emphasis on self-denial and more on having an effective, happy, whole life.
mission your best possible life in mind

Following the Plan

Do you feel that faith often demands drastic measures?

What would happen if you leave your job for greener pastures?

List some trusted friends that you could talk to about a risky decision.

Check the statements below that line up with your thoughts:

first things first I need to get other things done before I consider following a lead from God.
between rock and hard place I usually wait until I get into a hard spot before I listen.
easier I'd rather sustain failure than follow invisible guidance.
overextended My God doesn't understand how much I have already taken on.
called My God would make me do something I'm not good at, or wouldn't like.
many counselors, broad advice I like to counsel with a lot of people first and let them tell me what's the right thing to do.
misguided Friends and counselors ought to be helpful, but end up pushing me to do things I'm not comfortable with.
mind at rest When I stop and pray about things, I usually get a clearer picture of what I to do.
butt in When I get others involved in prayer, they start criticizing and gossiping.
holy spirit When I get others involved in prayer, it seems that energy arrives and things move quickly.
gratefulness When I focus more on my God's nature and past provision, everything seems to smooth out.
avoidance I tend to start new projects when I'm avoiding a steep climb.
impetuous I tend to think I need to follow leads immediately, so they won't fizzle out.
training I like to prepare myself as well as possible for things I think I should do.
driven Life feels empty unless I have a creative outlet and someone to appreciate my work.
being I think that my God's will for my life has more to do with love and enjoyment than following goals.
missionary I'm afraid it would involve giving up things precious to me, even my family's well-being.
delight I think that my God knows me so well, whatever the plan was would be satisfying and fun for me.
thrill of challenge I would dive into a new project at the quietest suggestion, just for variety and a new challenge.
new every morning A little success could erase some of my lack of confidence from past mistakes.
creative If anyone understands the creative process and decision-making, it would be my God.
distracted I'd rather follow my own dreams than ask my God what the plan is.
fatherly love I think my God would approve of almost anything I did.
dogmatic Certain people push me to more dogmatic activity than a balanced life should have.
unconditional love I suspect that my God cares for me more than my religious organization is letting on.
heirarchy So many people approach spiritual goals as competition with each other.
sense of community I think that spiritual goals should always build up other people in some way.
blurry vision I'd like to follow the leading of my God, but I don't get a sense of what that is.
wait upon I'm waiting for a tangible revelation before I go ahead with anything.
wise choices When circumstances start lining up with my plan, I'll start moving ahead.
fate When I face obstacles, I consider them a sign that the plan was wrong.
inevitable If I falter, someone else will continue my God's plan and it will still get done.
sharing talents I have unique gifts in certain areas that should be used daily to help others.
conflicted I have something in mind that I'd like to do, but it's against my belief system and holy book.
confused I followed a certain lead once, and stopped because it didn't make sense.
overwhelmed I get discouraged thinking I have to do it all, and my God will leave me to figure it out.
intercession Prayer can accomplish so much more than anything I can do.
impetuous I try too hard to make things happen, and lose sight of guidance and help.
caring It's more about attitude than actions. There is no goal but to represent my God.
ambassador If it's real, the path would be paved ahead and my God would work alongside me.
discouraged I've stumbled so many times before, I'm just too exhausted to try another risk.
called I have so many mixed feelings, which leads me to work in spurts.
guided The hunches I have had before have a strong success record.

Here are some of the things that I've felt I was guided into doing:

Attempted Not yet attempted

I see myself in daily life as:

teacher a one-on-one teacher

Here's one direction I want to go:

These are some of the possible pitfalls, delays and obstacles:

These are the skills I should gain to do a better job:

These are people who will try to discourage me:

These are people who will encourage me: . . .

These are my natural or acquired strengths that will help make this work:

John 12:26 NCV

Go forth to every part of the world, and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation...faith will bring with it these miracles: believers will cast out devils in my name and speak in strange tongues; if they handle snakes or drink deadly poison, they will come to no harm; and the sick on whom they lay their hands will recover.

God, thank you for all the ways you have guided me so far, even when I don't recognize your influence. I need more help than I claim I to. Do you really have good plans for me? I'm so busy, it's hard for me to imagine fitting something loftier into my week. Help me recognize gifts in others and lift them up so that everyone gains. Help me focus on You more, love You more, be more thoughtful of others, see the big picture.
